30 Days in July

August 8, 2023

June was a lazy month for me. I laid around, eating snacks and taking naps. I had become a bad version of myself. So, in an effort to pick myself up by the bootstraps, I decided to have a more productive month. When July rolled around, I was determined to become more active by going to the gym each day and exercising. Of course, July has 31 days. But since July 31 would be my first day back at work I didn’t include that day in my goal.

I was successful in my ambition. I completed a full 30 days of daily exercise at my local gym. It was during these strenuous workouts that I realized just because someone is dedicated to a thing doesn’t mean you enjoy it, or even like what you’re doing. It simply means one has made the decision to do it, whether it’s convenient or not.

There were multiple days I talked myself out of going to the gym. Honestly, it was nearly everyday. Every single day I tried to talk myself out of exercise but my family encouraged me to get up and go. So, I dragged myself off my couch and exercised. I always felt better afterwards. Did I enjoy it, no. I didn’t even like it. But I felt better.

I haven’t decided what my workout regimen will be moving forward. It will certainly include 2-4 days a week at the gym. But my body has to adjust itself to being back at work after a two-month long summer break. Send some encouragement my way!

(Special shout out to Tia Williams for the idea for my blog title. She wrote this fabulous book called Seven Days in June. If you haven’t read it, you should)
