Tik Tok and The Bible

October 4, 2023

Searching for answers, I decided to read the Bible from beginning to end. The year was 2016…October 24, I think. I embarked on a journey to read the Bible completely. I was in search of a remedy to the confusion that had been crowding my mind. It took me 4 years to read from Genesis to Revelation. I was in no rush. Every night I’d read a little or a lot. I accomplished my goal in December 2020.

It was life changing. And while many of the gaps in my understanding of God were filled in, more questions formed. So, I kept reading. I started over. Back to Genesis I went to begin another reading of God’s word.

It was only happenstance that I stumbled upon a Biblical scholar on Tik Tok. I’m not sure how the algorithm works, but it drew me to this gentleman. I was fascinated with his explanations of the Bible. I listened intently as he elucidated on historical figures and events. He was really, really good. He showed familiarity with the Bible and all its elements. It’s evident he knows the construct of the writings and the history that accompanies each Biblical book. He had studied centuries of information.

What I found missing from his “argument” is the element of faith which is the foundation of Christianity…the foundation of the believer. He certainly knows the Bible, but it doesn’t seem he knows God.

My level of disappointment in his teachings began to grow a few months ago when he made a video regarding his personal beliefs and how they do or do not affect his studies of the Bible. And then, as I watched more of his videos the assurance I had of his knowledge began to chip away. The more he talked, the more his lack of faith showed.

Finally, he posted a video discussing the different “Gods” of the Bible. He stated there is no one God, that there is a compilation of Gods that believers worship throughout the Bible. I can’t accurately quote what he said because the whole video had me in a tizzy. I knew then that I needed to unfollow him. His ideas and opinions do not line up with my beliefs and some of what he says seems to be contrary to the Word of God.

He has a popular pod cast that airs weekly, I believe. On of the episodes was on these various Gods of the Bible he mentioned in his Tik Tok video. I listened to the first few minutes of this particular episode. Then decided to log off. It wasn’t for me.

I still have a great deal of respect for him because I think he is so very smart. I simply cannot cosign on his teachings. I’m in search for truth. I’m in search of a closer relationship with God. And anyone or any thing that takes me away from that has to be eradicated from my life.

Have you encountered anyone that you’ve admired just to have that admiration shattered by their words or deeds? How did you recover?
