Let’s Get Moving!

January 10, 2023

Today, I’m joining the gym. I’m going online, signing up for membership, paying my fee and becoming a member.

This is what I keep telling myself. I’m not into this “New Year, New You” mantra that many of us subscribe to. I rarely, if ever make resolutions. But with my age and health, I’m finding it completely necessary to exercise.

It’s becoming harder to move. Let me clarify, I’m not the spring chicken I was yesterday. If I find the occasion to sit on the floor, there’s great difficulty in getting up. My knees creek when I walk. My joints bend a little slower than what was normal. I’m wearing compression socks regularly due to my ankles swelling, and let’s not talk about my carpal tunnel syndrome.

It all crept up on me so fast. I swear I was a healthy 25-year-old yesterday. And now, I’m a 46-year-old diabetic who complains of some sort of pain every day. So, as my doctor suggested, I need to exercise at least 30 minutes a day, drink lots of water and lose at least 25 lbs (to get off my diabetes medication).

Here’s to a healthier, pain free life. Happy New Year, folks.
